大山　卓昭　（おおやま　たかあき）

1987年金沢大学医学部卒業。研修医・大学院生・文部教官などをオモテの顔として、世界各地で社会開発の保健医療分野（貧困、難民、教育など）及び感染症対策を中心とした公衆衛生分野で活動。知識・経験が不十分なことを自覚し、1994-96年にジョンズ・ホプキンス大学公衆衛生学部で勉強をやり直し。その後、世界保健機関（WHO）、ヨーロッパ連合（EU）などで「疫学」を武器に感染症対策チームとして活動。1999年に国立感染症研究所でFETPの活動開始。

FETPは公衆衛生分野の危機管理チームです。将来的には、感染症対策だけではなく環境、放射能、社会問題など他の分野にも視野を広げていきたいと考えています。まず、核となる人材を養成し、つぎは彼らが中心となって日本各地で自分たちのネットワークを確立し、全国的な公衆衛生分野の危機管理ネットワークを確立するのが長期的な目標です。そして、世界各国のFETPとの連携をはかり、国際的な危機管理ネットワークの一翼を担うことを目指しています。道のりは長いですが、くじけず、一歩づつ進んでいきましょう。

As the foreign advisor, I provide 20 years of personal experience in field epidemiology to FETP-J. I also arrange for short term consultants to provide their experiences through courses and other instruction.
Like clinical medicine, public health cannot be learned only through textbooks or classroom instruction. It must also be learned by doing public health work, with advice from more experienced people.

Public health work and field epidemiology, must be performed in a manner compatible with the social and political circumstances of a country. Since my experience has been from outside Japan, my job is to provide information about how field epidemiology is performed elsewhere, so that FETP staff can develop solutions appropriate to Japan.
